WHITTIER, Calif - The Elmhurst University men's soccer team continues its competition in California with a tied match-up against Whittier College, 1-1, on Sept. 13 at Donald E. Graham Soccer Field in Whittier, Calif.
The Bluejays (1-2-2) opened the game with a strong defense after seeing four consecutive shots taken. Nearing halftime, a connection was made at 42:38 where Edgar Duenas sparked the Bluejays' offense, taking the score 1-0 into the half.
Elmhurst's defense showed early in the second half once again, where Whittier (1-0-4) took four shots in the first four minutes. Whittier tied the game at 59:31, minutes prior. Goalkeeper Niyen Ruffin saved two back-to-back shots, paired with a team save, allowing one shot to meet the net, setting the score 1-1.
Ashton Kerrigan led the Bluejays in attempts, taking five shots, with four shots on goal. Duenas led the Bluejays in scoring, going two for three on goal, with the credit for the Bluejays' single goal. Andrew Walters matched Duenas on shots, taking all three on goal. Ruffin was able to grab 11 saves on the day for the Bluejays.
