Bluejays to play for CCIW title after road win at Carthage

KENOSHA, Wisc. – Elmhurst Men's Lacrosse will play for the CCIW regular season title this weekend, following their 17-9 road win at Carthage on Wednesday night.

The victory keeps the Bluejays undefeated in league play, with the season finale against Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday serving as a title-deciding matchup. Elmhurst hosts the Titans on Saturday, April 26 at 3:00 p.m. at Langhorst Field.

The host Firebirds struck first on Wednesday, scoring the first goal of the match less than three minutes into play. The Bluejays responded with a pair of goals, from Josh Brandt and Eli Spence to take their first lead of the day inside of seven minutes left in the opening period.

Carthage briefly pulled even with their second goal of the match, but the Jays exploded for a four-goal run, with two coming from Kyle Taylor. The home team would respond again, scoring four unanswered to close the first half and tie the game at 7-7.

Spence put the Bluejays back on top with his goal early in the third, followed by back-to-back scores from Hunter Hernandez.

The Elmhurst defense would hold Carthage to just two goals in the second half as the offense pulled away with five goals each in the third and fourth quarters.

Hernandez finished the night with a game-high six goals and seven points, while Spence collected five scores in the win. Andrew Lacksonen made 19 saves in net to secure his 12th win of the season.
