ELMHURST, Ill. – The Bluejays used a five-goal first period to jump out early on the visitors, as Elmhurst picked up their second win in a row and their first of the year at Langhorst Field with a 13-3 win over Beloit (Wisc.).
Grace Lorkiewicz and Ashley Kay Sardon led their team with four points apiece, with Lorkiewicz scoring a game-high four goals, and Sardon scoring three with one of the Bluejays' four assists.
The Bluejays' offensive duo combined for four scores in the first period, along with a goal from Olivia Ingraffia to put Elmhurst in front 5-0 after the first period. The Jays' lead would expand to as much as seven after Lorkiewicz and Sardon both found the back of the net for the third time, before the Buccaneers got on the board with a man-up goal in the closing minutes of the first half.
Hannah Jacob would post two goals in the third period, pushing the lead to 9-1 going into the final quarter. Beloit would score twice in the fourth, one on a man-up goal and another while a player down, but Paige Moniz scored twice for the Bluejays, and Alannah Williams got on the board as Elmhurst closed out the win.
Goalkeeper Jacq Vanoni picked up the win, making seven saves on the night.
The Bluejays head north for their next matchup, when they travel to Milwaukee School of Engineering on Thursday, March 12. Elmhurst returns to Langhorst Field for the women's lacrosse Pack The Nest game on Sunday, March 15 against Augsburg (Minn.) at 1:00 p.m.
