ELMHURST, Ill. – Facing a four-goal deficit at halftime, Elmhurst Men's Lacrosse responded on the defensive end, holding Oberlin (Ohio) scoreless over the entire second half to record a 9-6 come-from-behind victory over the Yeomen on Saturday afternoon at Langhorst Field.
Fischer Son led the Bluejays with four goals, leading his team in scoring for the second time this season. Gabe Henry picked up a team-high seven ground balls in the win, and goalkeeper Andrew Lacksonen tallied 16 saves for his fifth consecutive win in net.
The visitors would jump out to a 5-1 lead after the first period, with Hunter Hernandez's man-up goal the lone point on the board for the Jays. Both teams would trade goals in the second quarter, with Son connecting with a pass from Eli Spence for the score just two minutes into the period.
With the Elmhurst defense holding Oberlin scoreless for the last ten minutes of the first half, the Bluejay defense continued the pressure the rest of the day, not allowing a goal for nearly 40 minutes.
Kyle Taylor and Charlie Ferree would both score in the third quarter to close the gap to 6-4, and with under six minutes to play Hernandez would get his second of the day to pull the Jays even at 6-6.
A minute later, Son would score with the assist from Landon Davis to give Elmhurst their first lead of the day. Just a minute after that, Son struck again; Spence would get on the board with the final goal of the game at the 3:22 mark, and in just over two minutes, a one-goal deficit for the Bluejays turned into a three-goal lead.
With the win, the Bluejays improve to 5-0 on the season, and will look to continue the momentum on Tuesday afternoon, when they host Ohio Wesleyan for a matinee matchup at Langhorst Field beginning at 1:00 p.m.
