CHICAGO, ILL - The Bluejays captured their first win of the season on the road against Illinois Tech. with a final score of 12-5. While Ashley Kay Sardon, and Zoe Valdevenito posted Elmhurst first hat tricks of the season.
The Bluejays opened the game with 5 consecutive unassisted goals in the first period. Ashley Kay Sardon, grabbing her first hat trick of the season going into the second period with 5-0 lead. With the next period under way Elmhurst maintained a strong defensive line allowing only 2 goals with three more goals were scored by Zoe Valdevenito, Andrea Murtland, and Ashley Kay Sardon with an assist by Grace Lorkiewicz. Bringing the Bluejays to a 8-2 lead. Going into the next half Elmhurst kept the lead going 1-1 in the third, the Bluejays rounded out the game with three more consecutive goals while Zoe Valdevenito tacked on the second hat trick of the game.
The Bluejays were led by Ashley Kay Sardon scored five goals, one assist, went 2-3 on free position shots, caused one turnover, and tacked on a draw control. The Bluejays also saw strong contributions from Zoe Valdevenito, who finished with four goals on four shots while adding a ground ball, a caused turnover, and a draw control. Andrea Murtland added a goal on three shots, placing all three on target while collecting two ground balls and two draw controls.Â
Grace Lorkiewicz contributed offensively with a goal and an assist on two shots, putting both attempts on goal while adding two draw controls. Olivia Ingraffia grabbed a goal on three shots, placing two on goal while also attempting a free position shot.
Guarding the net for the Bluejays was Jacq Vanoni who saw 17 shots from Illinois Tech, allowing 29.4% in the grid.
Elmhurst had well balanced offensive movement with a 63.1% shooting, 21 turnovers, and 57.8% for draw control. As a team the Bluejays attacked 2-4 on free position opportunities, and collected 13 ground balls.
The Bluejays return to Langhorst Field Monday March 9, against Beloit at 7:00 PM.
