Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Fourth-quarter push gives Jays fourth-straight win

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Bluejays would overcome a slow start and a rainy night at Langhorst Field on Wednesday, pulling away in the second half to take a 12-6 win over Lake Forest (Ill.) to remain perfect on the season.

Eli Spence and Fischer Son each led Elmhurst with three goals apiece, with six players scoring for Elmhurst throughout the night.

The Bluejays opened with a quick score, as Hunter Hernandez found the back of the net in the opening minute of play, but Lake Forest would respond with two goals to take a 2-1 lead by the end of the first quarter.

Goals from Sam Hoff and Joe Latorre put the Jays back in front midway through the second period, with Son adding in his first goal of the night at the 9:36 mark. The Foresters would add two scores as well, not allowing the Jays to build more than a one-goal lead and taking a 4-4 stalemate into the halftime break.

The Foresters reclaimed the lead with a goal just thirty seconds into the second half, and the visiting defense would keep Elmhurst off the board for over ten minutes, until Spence scored to pull the Jays even at 5-5. Shortly after the following faceoff, Hernandez put Elmhurst back in front with his second goal of the game.

Lake Forest would tie the game yet again with a goal inside of two minutes to play in the third quarter, but Sam Hoff's goal gave the Jays a 7-6 advantage going into the fourth quarter.

Elmhurst put the game away in the fourth, shutting out the Foresters while pouring in five goals for the win. Spence would score twice in a four-and-a-half minute stretch, followed by a strike from Kyle Taylor at the 8:41 mark. Son would then add in a pair of goals to close out the scoring and give the Jays a six-point win.

Elmhurst will look to continue the momentum and extend the season-opening win streak to five, when they host Oberlin (Ohio) on Saturday afternoon, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
