BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Aidyn Boone led the Bluejays with 14 points, but the Bluejays struggled to keep pace with a hot-shooting Illinois Wesleyan squad playing in front of their home crowd on Senior Day, as Elmhurst fell on the road 91-69 on Saturday evening.
Boone would go 4-for-8 from the floor and 3-for-7 from three-point range, as one of two Bluejays to reach double figures. Luke Smith tallied 12 points with six rebounds and four assists. Vinnie Adjahoungbeta finished just shy of a double-double, with nine points and a game-high 12 boards.
Elmhurst would twice take an early lead in the opening minutes, first with a pair of free throws from Sebastian Blachut, then again with one from Adjahoungbeta that put the Jays in front 6-5 at the 15:26 mark. Already in the midst of a five-minute stretch without a field goal, the Bluejays would fall behind 17-6 before a three from Jack Cherry closed the run with 12:30 left in the opening period.
The Titans would remain in front for the rest of the first half, stretching their lead to as much as 16 before Elmhurst clawed back, cutting the deficit to just one after a Boone three-pointer and a Luke Smith jumper to close the first half.
Coming out of the break Illinois Wesleyan would score six straight to take control again, and remained in front the rest of the way.
The Bluejays, previously winners of five straight, return home to R.A. Faganel Hall for three of the final four games of the regular season, beginning on Wednesday, Feb. 11 with a matchup against Wheaton. Tipoff with the Thunder is set for 7:00 p.m.
