Jays win streak reaches five after sweeping season series over Augustana

ROCK ISLAND, Ill.  Elmhurst matched their longest win streak of the season on Wednesday night, sweeping the season series over Augustana with an 81-62 win on the road.

Three Bluejays finished in double figures, led by senior Dominic Trelenberg's 19 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Vinnie Adjahoungbeta picked up his second double-double over the last three games, recording 15 points and 11 rebounds. Coming off the bench for 28 minutes was Talen Pearson, who would score a career-high 16 points on a 4-for-6 performance from three-point range.

Early three-pointers from Trelenberg and Sebastian Blachut would give the Jays an 8-4 advantage in the opening minutes, but six straight points from the home team would put the Vikings ahead 10-8 by the 14:49 mark of the first half.

Both teams would trade small leads three more times, before Jack Cherry's three-pointer with just over 11 minutes left in the first put the Jays up four, 19-15. Elmhurst would remain in front for the rest of the first half, going up by double digits for the first time on a three from Pearson with 7:27 left before halftime, 29-19. The Bluejays would go up by as much as 15 in the first half, and take a 43-31 lead into the break.

The Vikings would rally early in the second half, using a 10-1 run to close the gap, 44-41 with 14:39 remaining. Pearson would end the scoring drought for the Jays with another three-pointer a minute later, and Elmhurst would reclaim control when Trelenberg's jumper at the 10:38 mark put the Jays back up double-digits 54-43. The Jays would pull away down the stretch to close out the win, returning the favor of the season sweep after Augustana pulled off the feat over Elmhurst last season.

Elmhurst can secure their longest win streak of the year on Saturday, when they travel to No. 16 Illinois Wesleyan. Tipoff with the Titans is set for 7:15 p.m.
