ELMHURST, Ill. – A career-high 21 points from Aidyn Boone would lead the Bluejays on Saturday afternoon, but Elmhurst Men's Basketball would close out the regular season with a tough, two-point loss to North Park inside R.A. Faganel Hall.
Boone would go 7-for-12 from the floor and knock down three three-pointers on the day. Vinnie Adjahoungbeta picked up his third double-double of the season with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Dominic Trelenberg scored 15 points with seven rebounds on his Senior Day game, with freshman Luke Smith reaching double figures with 13 points go to with a team-high four rebounds.
The visiting Vikings would hold a narrow single-digit advantage throughout the first half, leading by as much as eight points, 22-14 at the 11:27 mark. The Jays would make it a one-possession game again with a pair of free throws from Boone with 8:45 to play in the first half, but were unable to pull even before the break, going into the half trailing 39-33.
Elmhurst made an early rally to start the second period, opening with eight unanswered points to take their first lead of the game, 41-39 with 17:23 to play. North Park would come back with eight straight points to move back in front.
Boone's three-pointer would tie the game again, 61-61 at the 8:13 mark, but Elmhurst didn't claim the lead until Luke Smith connected beyond the arc with under two minutes to play, giving the Jays a 77-76 edge.
North Park answered with a three with a minute left to play, and Adjahoungbeta would tie the game with a pair of free throws in the closing seconds, before the visitors secured the win with a late trip to the charity stripe.
Despite the loss the Bluejays will play at home in the first round of the CCIW Tournament on Tuesday night. The 3-seeded Elmhurst will host 6th-seeded Carroll on February 24, with tipoff against the Pioneers set for 7:00 p.m.
