DECATUR, Ill. – Three weeks after suffering their only home loss of the season to the Big Blue, Elmhurst returned the favor on Saturday, defeating Millikin on the road 80-72.
Dominic Trelenberg led the way for the Bluejays, finishing with a game-high 25 points that included a career-high seven three-pointers, shooting at a 70% clip from beyond the arc. Vinnie Adjahoungbeta collected 21 points and a team-leading eight rebounds, while going 3-for-3 from three-point range and 8-for-8 from the free throw line.
The home team would lead throughout the early portion of the game, until Elmhurst took their first lead as part of a 6-0 run, going up 16-14 with a pair of Aidyn Boone free throws at the 11:08 mark. Millikin briefly moved back in front with a three, but Trelenberg's three in response put the Jays back on top 24-22, and Elmhurst would stay in front for the remaining 7:15 in the first half, taking a 33-31 lead into the break.
A 7-2 run for the Big Blue early in the second half would put Millikin in front again, but Boone would score in response, starting a 15-2 run over the next four minutes that gave the Jays a double-digit lead for the first time, 56-44 by the 12:59 mark. Luke Smith's three-pointer with seven minutes to play would give the Bluejays their largest lead of the day, 71-56 as Elmhurst secured their 14th win in the last 16 meetings with Millikin.
The Bluejays can now match their longest win streak of the season on Wednesday, when they look for their fifth straight victory during a trip to Augustana on Feb. 4. Tipoff with the Vikings is set for 7:00 p.m.
