Elmhurst Women’s Wrestling Showcases Depth and Podium Finishes at Inaugural Elmhurst Invite

ELMHURST, Ill - The Elmhurst University women's wrestling team hosted the first-ever Elmhurst Women's Invite, turning in several competitive performances across the lineup and earning multiple placements against a deep field of opponents. Highlighting the day for the Bluejays was Lily Avalos, who secured a third-place finish at 160 pounds, marking one of Elmhurst's top results of the tournament. Avalos earned her podium spot with a decisive 12–8 decision victory over Jalah Wilson of Lakeland University in the third-place match, showcasing composure and control in a tightly contested bout.

Elmhurst also picked up key placements throughout the weight classes, beginning at 103 pounds where Claire Crouchfinished fourth, gaining valuable mat time in a round-robin bracket. At 117 pounds, the Bluejays placed two wrestlers, with Valentina Fantoni finishing seventh after earning a 10–0 technical fall over teammate Jala Singleton in the seventh-place match, while Singleton placed eighth. Kendall Smith recorded a fourth-place finish at 124 pounds, in Round 4 to secure her placement. At 131 pounds, Bella Curcuru placed sixth, while Nyima Outlaw finished eighth after competing in placement matches.

Additional Elmhurst finishes included Viola Pianetto placing fourth at 138 poundsGrace Johnson earning fourth place at 145 pounds, and Juliana Lefort finishing fourth at 180 pounds, with Mallory Matuga placing eighth in the same weight class. At 207 pounds, Elmhurst did not have a competitor place, as the bracket was contested by wrestlers from North Central College and Lakeland University.

The inaugural Elmhurst Women's Invite marked an important milestone for the Bluejays' program, providing a full day of competitive matches and meaningful placement finishes on their home mats. With podium performances led by Avalos and several fourth-place finishes across the lineup, Elmhurst continues to establish thier presence as the program builds momentum in its first season.
