Jays pick up six wins at Shoe Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Elmhurst Track & Field put in a strong showing during their first appearance of the New Year, picking up six event wins and setting more than a dozen personal records, while competing at the Coach Shoe Invitational hosted by Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday.

Tiana Grady picked up two wins on the day, beginning with the victory in the women's 60 meters. Grady posted the team's only sub-8 second time (7.83), as five Bluejays qualified for the finals. The junior then led Elmhurst as the Bluejays swept the podium in the women's 60 meter hurdles, finishing in 8.99 seconds.

In the women's 200 meters, Carmela Woods earned the win, with a time of 26.41 seconds.

The Jays picked up three victories in the jumping events, highlighted by Logan Turney taking the top spot in the men's pole vault. Turney cleared 4.57m (15' 0"), a foot higher than the rest of the field. In the men's triple jump, Kayton Garrett set a personal record with a mark of 13.58m (44' 6.75") to take the win.

Paulina Tinajero took the top spot in the women's long jump, recording a distance of 5.80m (19' 0.5"), as the Bluejays swept the top five spots in the event. Chloe Selmer finished second (5.75m; 18' 10.5") and moved into fifth on the NCAA Division III performance list.

In addition, 15 personal records were broken throughout the day, including:

Sherlyn Carrasco – women's long jump (5.32m)
Camryn Dooley – women's long jump (5.27m)
Kayton Garrett – men's triple jump (13.59m)
Jaedon Thompson – men's shot put (11.87m)
Rashard Wraggs – men's shot put (9.18m)

The Bluejays will now prepare for next weekend's Aurora Grand Prix, scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 24.
