ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Elmhurst University men's soccer team was unable to generate offense in a 2-0 road setback at Washington University in St. Louis on Friday evening at Francis Olympic Field.
The Bluejays (2-2-0) were held to just one shot in the contest, while WashU (2-1-0) broke through with two second-half goals to secure the win. After a scoreless first half, Colin Link put the Bears in front in the 78th minute off an assist from Sebastian Valdes. Less than five minutes later, Ethan Wirtschafter doubled the lead in the 83rd minute, again assisted by Valdes.
Elmhurst goalkeeper Niyen Ruffin kept the Bluejays in the match with six saves, including five in the second half as WashU outshot Elmhurst 18-1 overall and 8-0 in shots on goal. Elmhurst earned five corner kicks in the match, while the Bears finished with five.
The Bluejays look to bounce back with another match in St. Louis against Webster University this Sunday, September 7.
