Bluejays Rip Past Spartans

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst University men's soccer team secured a 2-0 shutout victory over the University of Dubuque on Wednesday night at Langhorst Field.

After a scoreless first half, the Bluejays broke through midway through the second period. In the 64th minute, Jacob Wipke tallied his first goal of the season off an assist from Klaus Gartner to put Elmhurst ahead 1-0. Just nine minutes later, the Bluejays doubled the advantage when Victor Lewicki finished a setup from Andrew Walters in the 73rd minute.

Elmhurst's defense held strong throughout the night, limiting Dubuque to just eight shots and five shots on goal. Goalkeeper Niyen Ruffin recorded all five saves to secure the clean sheet.

The Bluejays finished with a 13-8 edge in total shots, including a 9-3 advantage in the second half, and held a 4-1 margin in corner kicks.

With the win, Elmhurst improved to 2-0 on the season, while Dubuque dropped to 0-1-1. Elmhurst will head to St. Louis for a pair of matches this weekend, beginning this Friday, September 5 against Washington University in St. Louis.
