PLYMOUTH, Wis. - Elmhurst women's volleyball earned two wins in Plymouth, Wis., defeating Ripon 3–1 (25–19, 21–25, 25–20, 25–16) before outlasting Lakeland 3–2 (25–19, 25–22, 22–25, 18–25, 15–12) at Moose and Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.
In the opener against Ripon, Elmhurst took the first set 25–19 behind a balanced attack that included an early block from Maggie Cross and Paige Belfield along with a service ace from Aubrey LeCleir. The Red Hawks evened the match with a 25–21 decision in the second set, but the Bluejays responded in the third. Casey stepped to the service line and sparked a 10–0 run with an ace, while Belfield, Blair Johnson, and Cross each contributed kills to give Elmhurst a commanding lead. The Bluejays held off Ripon 25–20 and then closed out the match with a 25–16 win in the fourth, using two more Casey aces and late kills from Belfield and Ashley Clardy.
Elmhurst finished the four-set win with 42 kills, nine aces, eight total blocks, and 62 digs. Belfield led the way with 15 kills, three block assists, and nine digs. Clardy added nine kills, while Johnson chipped in eight kills with four block assists. Temple directed the offense with 31 assists and also collected 11 digs. Casey anchored the back row with 17 digs and a career-best six service aces. Cross contributed five kills and seven block assists, while Ptaszek added 12 digs and Moroney chipped in eight digs with two kills.
In the night match, Elmhurst came out strong against Lakeland, winning the first two sets 25–19 and 25–22. Set one featured another Casey ace along with kills from Belfield and Johnson. In the second, Temple served three consecutive aces to stretch the lead to 18–11, and the Bluejays held on for the win. Lakeland answered back, taking the third 25–22 and the fourth 25–18 to force a deciding set.
The Bluejays regrouped in the fifth, where Temple once again made a difference at the service line. She fired back-to-back aces late in the set to put Elmhurst in control, and at match point, Temple and Nyah Moustakas teamed up for a block to seal the 15–12 win.
Elmhurst posted 60 kills while hitting .310 in the five-set victory, along with eight aces, seven total blocks, and 67 digs. Johnson paced the offense with 18 kills on .342 hitting, while Clardy added 16 kills and a solo block. Belfield chipped in 14 kills, and Temple ran the attack with 46 assists, five aces, 13 digs, and four block assists. Casey collected 27 digs, two aces, and 10 assists, while Moustakas added five kills and four block assists. Cross contributed four kills and two block assists.
Across the two victories, Elmhurst combined for 102 kills, 17 service aces, 15 total blocks, and 129 digs. Belfield totaled 29 kills on the day, while Johnson finished with 26 and Clardy with 25. Temple directed the offense with 77 assists, added five aces and 24 digs, while Casey anchored the back row with 44 digs and eight aces.
