Box Score Elmhurst volleyball turned in one of its most complete performances of the season, sweeping Millikin 3–0 (25–16, 25–22, 25–21) in a CCIW matchup on Wednesday night at R.A. Faganel Hall. The victory improved the Bluejays to 7–12 overall and 1–2 in league play.
Elmhurst set the tone early with a dominant first set. Keely Larson and Nyah Moustakas powered the attack at the net, while Larson also delivered from the service line with four aces in the match. Ashley Clardy and Paige Belfield added timely kills as the Bluejays closed out the opener 25–16.
The second set featured seven ties as both sides traded points. Elmhurst's offense, led by Clardy's consistency and Larson's efficiency, eventually pulled away in the closing stretch. A Belfield kill followed by a Clardy finish sealed the 25–22 decision and gave the Bluejays a two-set lead.
Millikin looked to extend the match in the third, holding an 18–17 lead late. Elmhurst answered with a final push, as Clardy, Blair Johnson, and Moustakas each connected for kills before Larson closed the night with her final ace to secure the 25–21 victory.
Elmhurst's attack was balanced and efficient, hitting .327 as a team with 43 kills. Clardy led all players with 15 kills on a .625 hitting percentage, while Larson and Johnson each finished with eight. Larson added four service aces and a solo block, while Johnson contributed two aces and a block assist. Moustakas was also sharp with six kills on nine swings (.667) and two block assists. Belfield chipped in six kills, two aces, and five digs.
Setter Freddie Temple ran the offense with 31 assists, while libero Alexis Casey led the defense with 19 digs. Gianna Ptaszek added five digs and an ace, and Peyton Moroney contributed a dig and an assist in the back row.
Millikin was held to just 23 kills and a .122 hitting percentage as the Bluejays controlled the match from start to finish. Elmhurst finished with nine service aces, three total blocks, and 36 digs.
The Bluejays continue CCIW play this weekend, looking to build on the momentum from their straight-set victory. Elmhurst will be back in action at home on Saturday, October 4, hosting Monmouth College at R.A. Faganel Hall.
