BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Elmhurst volleyball dropped its second straight conference match, falling in straight sets at Illinois Wesleyan 3–0 (25–9, 25–12, 25–18) on Wednesday night at the Shirk Center.
The Bluejays (4–13, 0–2 CCIW) struggled to find rhythm against the undefeated Titans (12–0, 2–0 CCIW). Illinois Wesleyan jumped out to an 8–0 lead in the opening set behind six consecutive service aces from Taylor French, and Elmhurst was unable to recover in a 25–9 decision.
In set two, Elmhurst showed brief sparks with kills from Blair Johnson and Paige Belfield and back-to-back aces from Alexis Casey, but the Titans maintained control behind a .462 hitting percentage to take it 25–12. The Bluejays battled in the third, trading points early behind kills from Antriana Larkou and Johnson, along with a block from Maggie Cross and Belfield, before Illinois Wesleyan pulled away late for the 25–18 final.
Johnson led Elmhurst with seven kills, while Larkou added five. Belfield chipped in four kills and six digs, and setter Freddie Temple finished with 13 assists and five digs. Casey tallied eight digs and two aces from the service line, while Gianna Ptaszek also posted eight digs.
As a team, Elmhurst finished with 20 kills, 38 digs, and three service aces. Illinois Wesleyan countered with 36 kills, 15 aces, and 41 digs while hitting .275 overall.
