LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Elmhurst University men's soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision on the road at Lake Forest College on Wednesday evening. The loss moved the Bluejays to 3-4-1 on the season.
Lake Forest wasted little time, scoring just under three minutes into the match. The Foresters controlled much of the opening half, firing 11 shots to Elmhurst's two, but goalkeeper Niyen Ruffin kept the Bluejays within reach with a pair of saves. Elmhurst's lone first-half attempt came from Fernando Delgado in the 21st minute, which was saved by Lake Forest keeper Kyle Demmon.
The action intensified in the second half. Lake Forest doubled its lead in the 58th minute when Gio Diaz finished off a pass from Chad Endozo. Elmhurst answered quickly less than two minutes later as Charlie Terriquez scored his first goal of the season to bring the Bluejays within 2-1.
Momentum quickly shifted when Elmhurst went down a man in the 62nd minute following a red card. Lake Forest capitalized almost immediately, adding a third goal just 36 seconds later from Nathan Kostovetsky. The Foresters sealed the match with a penalty kick conversion by Peter Cirbo in the 70th minute.
The Bluejays played the final 23 minutes two players down after a second red card was issued in the 68th minute. Despite the disadvantage, Elmhurst continued to battle, with Terriquez adding another shot and Ruffin making two more saves to finish with four on the night.
Lake Forest outshot Elmhurst 19-4 overall and held a 10-2 edge in shots on goal. Terriquez led Elmhurst with two shots, including his goal, while Delgado and Mati Aguilar each registered one attempt.
