This Week in the Nest: September 15-21

PREVIEW

9/15/2025 9:19:00 AM

Elmhurst University Athletics heads into another full week of competition from September 15–21, highlighted by a Pack the Nest showdown in women's volleyball on Wednesday night against North Park and Family Weekend festivities surrounding the Elmhurst Invitational on Friday and Saturday. With golf, tennis, soccer, cross country, and football all in action, Bluejay fans will have plenty of opportunities to support Elmhurst teams both at home and on the road.

Men's Golf

Elmhurst men's golf turned in a strong showing last week, finishing second of 11 teams at the St. Francis Fall Classic after also competing at the Carthage Firebirds Fall Classic. The Bluejays now head north to Brighton Dale Links in Kansasville, Wis., for the Midwest Region Fall Classic, beginning Friday, September 19, and concluding Saturday, September 20.

Women's Golf

The Bluejays placed fourth at the Marian Invite and then took eighth in a large 22-team field at the Benedictine Fall Invite last week. Elmhurst now competes twice in the coming days, opening with the CCIW Preview at Metamora Fields in Metamora, Ill., on Tuesday, September 16. They then join the men's team at Brighton Dale Links for the Midwest Region Classic on September 19–20.

Women's Tennis

Elmhurst women's tennis saw its scheduled matches against Oakton, Augustana, Illinois Wesleyan, and North Central canceled or postponed last week. The Bluejays look to get back on court Saturday, September 20, when they host Millikin in a CCIW contest beginning at noon.

Women's Soccer

Elmhurst women's soccer enjoyed an unbeaten week, earning home shutouts over Ripon (2-0) and Great Lakes Christian (4-0) while also playing to a 1-1 road draw at Lawrence. The Bluejays return to Langhorst Field on Wednesday, September 17, to face Kalamazoo at 7:00 p.m. They close the week on the road, traveling to Michigan on Saturday, September 20, for a 3:00 p.m. (CT) matchup against Olivet.

Men's Soccer

The Bluejays battled Dominican to a 1-1 draw at home last week before falling 3-0 on the road at Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Elmhurst looks to bounce back Wednesday, September 17, with a road trip to Lake Forest College for a 4:30 p.m. kickoff. The Bluejays stay on the road Saturday, September 20, traveling to Jacksonville, Ill., to face Illinois College at 1:30 p.m.

Volleyball

Elmhurst volleyball rebounded from a midweek 3-2 setback to Illinois Tech with a dominant weekend, sweeping Rhodes, Benedictine, and Lake Forest in straight sets. The Bluejays open CCIW play on Wednesday, September 17, with a 6:00 p.m. home matchup against North Park. The contest is a designated Pack the Nest game, encouraging the campus community to fill R.A. Faganel Hall in support of the Bluejays. Elmhurst then hosts the Elmhurst Invitational on Friday and Saturday as part of Family Weekend, opening with Aurora on September 19 at 5:30 p.m. Tournament play continues Saturday with a 10:00 a.m. match against Olivet and a 5:30 p.m. contest against Lawrence.

Football

Elmhurst football delivered its first win of the season last Saturday, edging Rockford 34-30 at Langhorst Field to give head coach Mike Heffernan his first career victory. The Bluejays hit the road this week, opening CCIW play on Saturday, September 20, with a 1:00 p.m. kickoff at Illinois Wesleyan in Bloomington.

Cross Country

Both Elmhurst cross country teams were idle last week following their runs at the NCCXC Invitational. The Bluejays return to action on Saturday, September 20, competing at the Gil Dodds Invitational hosted by Wheaton at St. James Farm in Warrenville.
