Volleyball Sweeps Rhodes

RECAP

ELMHURST, Ill. - Elmhurst volleyball picked up a sweep on its home floor, powering past Rhodes 3–0 (27–25, 25–13, 25–17) on Friday night at R.A. Faganel Hall. The Bluejays improved to 2–7 on the season with the straight-set victory.

The opening set was a back-and-forth battle featuring 14 ties and six lead changes. Elmhurst built an early cushion behind kills from Keely Larson and Ashley Clardy, along with a service ace from Paige Belfield. Rhodes rallied late to push the score to 25–25, but the Bluejays closed out the frame 27–25 on consecutive kills from Blair Johnson and Belfield.

Elmhurst took control in set two with a dominant offensive stretch. A block from Maggie Cross and Johnson and a pair of kills from Johnson highlighted a 9–0 Bluejay run that stretched the lead into double digits. Belfield added a service ace, and Larson and Clardy put away points at the net to seal the set 25–13.

The Bluejays kept their momentum rolling in the third. Clardy and Larson combined for several early kills, while Belfield and Larson each served aces to push the lead. Elmhurst built a 20–15 advantage before closing the match with a 25–17 decision, capped by Clardy's match-point kill.

Elmhurst's offense was efficient throughout the night, hitting .387 as a team with 46 kills against just 10 errors. Clardy led all players with 15 kills while hitting .481, and Larson was close behind with 11 kills on a blistering .611 attack percentage. Johnson chipped in 10 kills and two blocks, while Belfield added six kills, three aces, and a team-high 11 digs. Setter Freddie Temple ran the offense with 36 assists and also added five digs.

Defensively, Alexis Casey anchored the back row with 13 digs, and Gianna Ptaszek tallied six digs and two aces. Elmhurst finished the night with seven service aces and three team blocks.

Rhodes (5–5) was led by Yzzi Dsamou's 13 kills, but the Lynx were limited to a .195 attack percentage and just two aces as Elmhurst controlled the match.
