MANHEIM, Pa. -Â
Rhenzo Augusto, a freshman on the Elmhurst University men's wrestling team, earned NWCA Scholar All-American honors, as announced by the professional organization.
Augusto ended his season with an overall record of 35-5, the best from a freshman in Bluejay history, including a CCIW Championship at 157 pounds, a runner-up finish at NCAA Regionals, and an NCAA Championship berth in just his first year in Elmhurst.
The NWCA awards student-athletes the honors after meeting one of the following academic and athletic criteria:
- WRESTLINGÂ - Must accomplish at least 1 of the 2
- Place in top 8 in the regional tournamentÂ
- Wrestle at least 15 matches and have a win percentage greater than 66%.
- Matches with teammates will count only if they happened in a tournamentÂ
- Matches set up between teammates will not count
- ACADEMICSÂ - Must accomplish at least 1 of the 2
- Must have an average GPA of 3.2 over the last 2 semesters or quarters or last 3 trimesters
- Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2
Augusto is a Business major at EU.
