MANHEIM, Penn. -Â
Veronica Cosio, a freshman on the Elmhurst University women's wrestling team, earned Scholar All-American honors from the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA).
Cosio becomes the program's first-ever recipient of the award, and first recipient of a national award in the program's short history. To be named a Scholar All-American, outstanding student-athletes have demonstrated excellence both on the mat and in the classroom, meeting one of the following academic and athletic criteria:Â
- A top eight placer at nationals and at least a 3.0 Cumulative GPA
- Competed in a minimum of 15 matches that are recorded in TRACKWRESTLING and has at least a 3.5 Cumulative GPA
- Was a national qualifier and has at least a 3.25 Cumulative GPA
Cosio is pursuing a degree in Psychology and holds a 3.54 GPA. On the mat, Cosio was the program's first-ever All-CCIW honoree and conference runner-up, earning a second place finish in the 110 pound bracket.
