Bluejays Wrestle at Quad Cities DIII Invite

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -  At the Quad Cities DIII Invitational, the Elmhurst University women's wrestling team placed 25th out of 31 teams, earning 4.0 team points.

Veronica Cosio, competing in the 110 weight class, had a strong start, advancing past the first round with a bye and winning her second-round match by fall in 1:44 against Caroline Farris of Alma. However, her tournament run was halted in the quarterfinals with a loss by fall to Layla Phillips of Simpson in just 32 seconds, followed by a technical fall loss (12-2) to Hope Chiattello of Wartburg in the consolation bracket.

Zeel Mody, also in the 110 division, faced tough competition, losing by fall in the first round to Mackenzie Burger of Alma in 49 seconds. After receiving a bye in the first round of consolations, Mody was eliminated following a 13-second fall loss to Hope Chiattello.

In the 160 weight class, Clara Rice struggled to gain momentum, falling to Keeley Kehrli of Simpson in 39 seconds in the opening round. Her consolation match ended in a 4:53 fall loss to Scarlett Snodgrass of Schreiner. Yareli Ortega, also competing at 160, fell to Gabriella Allen of Alma in 44 seconds during the championship round before receiving a bye in the consolation bracket. Her tournament ended with a 35-second fall loss to Jaylah Dalton of Eureka.

UP NEXT

The Bluejays will compete in a tri-match with CCIW foe Carthage and Joliet Junior College on Thursday. Feb. 13 in Kenosha, Wis.
