Bluejays Surge Over Aurora

RECAP

AURORA, Ill. - The Elmhurst University men's lacrosse team continued its historic start to the season with a commanding 17-6 victory over Aurora on the road on Wednesday evening. Elmhurst's 6-0 start is the best in program history.

Elmhurst set the tone early, scoring six goals in the first period and never looking back, outshooting Aurora 62-34 overall. The Bluejays displayed exceptional offensive efficiency and defensive poise, limiting Aurora's chances throughout the contest. Aurora struggled to keep pace, scoring just three goals in the first half and three more in the second.

Eli Spence led the charge for Elmhurst with six goals and one assist, while Brenden Crouse chipped in three goals. Kaden Ames contributed two goals and one assist, and Kyle Taylor added two goals. Sam Hoff tallied one goal and two assists, while Hunter Hernandez and Zain Crumedy each netted a goal. Goalkeeper Noah Mickelson stood strong in net, making nine saves to keep Aurora at bay.

The Jays wasted no time establishing dominance, opening the scoring just 37 seconds into the game with a goal from Brenden Crouse. Eli Spence followed up with a goal less than three minutes later to give the Bluejays a quick 2-0 lead. Aurora responded with back-to-back goals from Carson Leader to tie the game at 2-2. However, Elmhurst answered with four more goals, including two from Spence and one each from Crouse and Kyle Taylor, ending the period up 6-3.

Aurora managed to slow down Elmhurst's offense briefly, but Spence struck again at the 9:40 mark to extend the lead to 7-3. Aurora cut the deficit to three with a goal from Tyler Foerstel, but Hunter Hernandez restored the four-goal advantage with a power-play tally assisted by Spence. Elmhurst went into halftime leading 8-4, having outshot Aurora 33-14.

EU came out firing in the third, with Hunter Hernandez and Spence each scoring within the first three minutes. Aurora managed one goal from Chris Bucci, but Elmhurst answered with three straight, including a man-up goal by Kaden Ames and another from Crouse. The Bluejays held a 13-5 lead heading into the final period.

The final quarter saw Elmhurst continue its relentless pressure. Sam Hoff and Zain Crumedy added quick goals to extend the lead to 15-5. Despite Aurora getting one back on a power-play goal from Leader, Kaden Ames and Kyle Taylor sealed the game with two more goals. Elmhurst cruised to a 17-6 win, capping a dominant performance and securing a spot in the record books with their best start in program history.
