Box Score 2 AURORA, Ill. - The Elmhurst University women's volleyball team opened their 2024 campaign Friday afternoon, dropping a pair of games to Southwestern University and Aurora University in the Jim Coleman Classic hosted by Aurora.
Elmhurst (0-2) struggled to find consistency on the day, dropping their opening match 1-3 to Southwestern (2-0) and following that with a 1-3 loss to the host Spartans (1-1).
Against Southwestern, the Pirates took the first two sets before the Jays fired back with a 26-24 third-set win. However, the Pirates were able to bounce back with a 25-19 win in the fourth set to take the match, three sets to one.Â
Elise Rossing led the Jays with 10 kills, while right-side hitters
Kali Phillips and
Blair Johnson tallied seven kills for Elmhurst.
Jada Wiley led Elmhurst with 15 digs, while
Keely Larson contributed 4.5 blocks in the match.Â
After delays pushed the start of the match between the Bluejays and Aurora back until nearly 9:00 p.m. CT, the hosts handled Elmhurst in the first two sets before the Jays again bounced back for a 27-25 third set victory. Aurora would go on to win the fourth set, 25-17, and took the match, three sets to one. Middle blockers Larson and
Bryanna Stanford led Elmhurst against the Spartans, with each tallying 10 kills, with Phillips trailing closely behind with nine kills.

Elmhurst wraps up the Jim Coleman Classic in Aurora, Ill. tomorrow afternoon with a matchup against No. 23 Cornell College at 4:00 p.m. CT.
