Bluejays Begin Conference Play with a Win

Kenosha Wis. - The Elmhurst men's lacrosse team took home their first CCIW win of the season as they defeated Carthage College 13-8 on Saturday night. 

Bluejays (9-2, 1-0 CCIW), were led by Eli Spence as he put up five goals and three assists. Pete Grebe scored two goals, Parker O'Leary had two assists and Chris Haycock had both a goal and assist. Josh Brandt, Brenden Crouse, Gabe Henery, Fischer Son and Hunter Hernandez all scored a goal in tonights contest. Ryan Swank added an assist, Tony Vazquez won 14 of 23 faceoffs and Andrew Lacksonen made 10 saves and won his eight game of season. 

Firebirds (6-6, 0-1 CCIW), were led by a combination of Ian Edwards and George Burchfield who both netted two goals and an assist. 

Carthage would take an early lead but it would lead to a three goal outbreak by the Bluejays with two goals being scored by Spence and the other by Barandt. Carthage would then tie the game back up but the Bluejays would again answer back right before the end of the first with goals by Crouse and Grebe to take a 5-3 lead. The second would see not mnay goals but Carthage would tie the game at 6-6, with the lone goal for the Jays being scored by Haycock. In the third, the Jays would explode as they would score five goals with two from Spence, and one from Hernandez, Grebe, and Henery to take a 11-7 lead into the last quarter. The Jays would add two more insurance goals with Spence's fifth and final goal along with a goal from Son to win tonights game 13-8.

The Bluejays will be back in action as they will host conference foe Augustana College on Saturday, April 13th, at 1:00 pm.
