CHICAGO, Ill. - The Elmhurst University baseball team fought hard, but fell to league-leading North Park by a score of 11-6 Wednesday evening.
Elmhurst (6-22, 2-10 CCIW) used two separate rallies in the fifth and sixth innings, taking a lead through the mid-innings, but late scores from the Vikings gave the home team the league victory.
Freddie March provided the firepower for Elmhurst, knocking in a pair of runs, while
Erik Malott tallied two hits on the day. On the mound,
Logan Leach took the loss for Elmhurst despite a strong start to his outing.
The Vikings took an early 4-0 lead in the first inning, but Elmhurst began to slowly chip into the Vikings' lead which was cut in half by a March two-RBI single up the middle in the third inning. Two more runs scored in the fifth for the Jays after March reached base on a throwing error, knotting the game at four through five innings.Â
The Bluejays took the lead thanks to an RBI triple from
Logan Bryant, which he followed by scoring on a wild pitch to put Elmhurst up, 6-4, through six innings. However, the Vikings scored three more runs in the seventh and four in the eighth to take the lead and the game, 11-6.
