ELMHURST, Ill. -Â The Elmhurst University baseball team hosted Carthage College for a doubleheader Saturday afternoon, dropping both games to the Firebirds at Butterfield Park.
Elmhurst (6-20, 2-8 CCIW) took a lead heading into the ninth inning of game one, but gave it up with a trio of runs from the Firebirds in the ninth to drop game one, 5-7. In game two, the Bluejays again held a lead, 3-1 through three innings, but four runs in the fourth gave up the lead and 12 runs in the final three innings from the visitors gave them the series victory and a 3-16 win.
Freddie March provided the firepower in game one, knocking in three runs on two hits, while
Marty Fraga had three hits and an RBI for the Bluejays.
Charlie Smith got the start in game one, pitching 5.2 innings and giving up three runs while striking out seven batters, while
Joseph Ingratta received the loss with 3.1 innings pitched and four runs (two earned).Â
Evan Johnson provided the runs for Elmhurst in game two, tallying two RBI, while Fraga again produced an RBI for his third of the day. On the mound,
Cole Bozzi took the loss to drop to 2-4 on the season.
