Baseball Falls to Wartburg, Kalamazoo

RECAP

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - The Elmhurst University baseball team dropped a pair of games to Wartburg and Kalamazoo College Saturday afternoon.

Elmhurst (0-5) began the day with a tight loss to Wartburg, with Elmhurst taking the lead in the eighth inning but giving it up soon after and dropping the game by a score of 3-5. In game two, the Bluejays kept it close with Kalamazoo through three innings, but a three-run fifth and eight more runs in the final three innings handed Elmhurst the loss, 6-13.

GAME ONE | WARTBURG 5, ELMHURST 3

Wartburg got the scoring started in the first with an RBI single, and an error in the fourth extended their lead to 2-0. Elmhurst responded in the sixth, with Freddie March knocking an RBI single up the middle, and March later scored on a wild pitch to knot the game at two through six innings.

The Bluejays continued their rally in the eighth, with Ryan Thrawl singling to right field to take a 3-2 lead. However, the lead would not stick for long as Wartburg knocked a two-run home run to take a 4-3 lead, and an insurance run on a fielding error gave Wartburg the 5-3 win.

GAME TWO | KALAMAZOO 13, ELMHURST 6

Kalamazoo would lead 2-0 after the first 2.5 innings of game two, but March would step to the plate and knock an opposite field two-run home run to knot the game at two in the third inning. However, Kalamzoo would score three in the fifth and another four in the seventh to blow the game open, 9-2.

Elmhurst would rally in the ninth with three-straight bases loaded walks by Nolan Brozyna, Malakai Correa, and Lucas Pasakarnis, and a single from Javier Cervantes moved the score to 13-6 before Kalamazoo shut the door on the game.
