ELMHURST, Ill.-Â Eight members of the Elmhurst men's and women's basketball teams were honored on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District teams, as announced by the professional organization Tuesday morning.
Jonathan Zapinski,
John Ittounas,
Matt Woloch, and
Kyran Mitchell earned the honors for the men's program. Zapinski and Mitchell are no strangers to the Academic All-District list, with Zapinski earning his second honor after being named a Second Team Academic All-American last year by the organization, while Mitchell earns his third honor after being named to the team twice at his previous institution, Washington & Jefferson College. Woloch and Ittounas both earn their first honors from the organization.
Elmhurst women's basketball was represented by
Anna Kleszynski,
Payton Schmidt,
MC Brown, and
Lindsay Novak. All earned their first career selections to the Academic All-District team.
The 2023-24 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Basketball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced April 16 (women) and April 17 (men). Zapinski and Ittounas both moved on to the national ballots for Academic All-American distinction.
To be considered for Academic All-District, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the teams' games at the position listed on the nomination form (where applicable). Additionally, nominees must have completed one full calendar year at his/her institution and have reached sophomore athletic eligibility.Â
