AUBURNDALE, Fla. -Â The Elmhurst University baseball team continued action at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational, splitting a doubleheader with Worcester State Wednesday morning/afternoon.
Elmhurst (4-10) dropped game one, 3-5, despite a comeback effort that fell short, but came back firing in game two and rode a strong pitching performance from senior
Cole Bozzi to earn a 3-0 victory in game two.
In game one, the Bluejays only tallied four hits but produced three runs across the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to try and claw back into the game. However, early errors allowed Worcester State to jump ahead 5-0 through two innings and hang on to the 3-5 win.
John Swiderek,
Ryan Thrawl, and
Marty Fraga each produced RBI for the Bluejay offense, while
Logan Leach took the loss pitching all six innings to drop to 0-3 on the season.
In game two, a three-run home run to right field off the bat of
Evan Johnson was all the offense the Bluejays needed to secure a victory. Bozzi provided one of the strongest pitching performances of the season, tossing a complete-seven inning shutout of the Worcester bats by allowing just three hits and no walks and striking out nine batters in the process.
