Danville Ky. - The Bluejays men's lacrosse team traveled to Centre College where they would lose a heartbreaker,11-10, to kick-off their season.
Bluejays (0-1), were led by
Eli Spence as he would score five goals on six shots in their opening contest while securing six points.
Jake Grebe would grab three points with a goal and two assists,
Ryan Swank would add two points with a goal and assist, with
Tony Vazquez,
Kaden Ames,
Chris Haycock all netting their first goal of the season as well.
Vazquez would go 15/24 in faceoffs for a .625% win rate. While
Noah Mickelson would make nine saves on 20 total shots.
Colonels (1-0), were led by goaltender Kyle Granquist as he would make 17 saves on 27 shots. Ryan Black led the way in points with one goal and five assists while Max Speers would score three goals.
Vazquez would win the opening face-off for the Bluejays and run right down the field to score four seconds into the game and just a few minutes later the Spence would add his first of the day. Centre would answer right back with 10:16 left in the first quarter, but just over minute later Spence would add his second to give the Bluejays a two goal advantage. Centre's Ben Hubbs would add one with five minutes left in the first quarter but both teams would stall after that to end the first 3-2 in favor of the Bluejays.
In the second quarter, the Bluejays would score three unanswered goals by Spence, Swank and Haycock taking a 6-2 lead half way through the second quarter. The Colonels would come roaring back by adding three goals, one via a man-up and another mere seconds before the half.
In the third the Colonels and Bluejays would score back and fourth with Centre scoring first followed by a goal from Elmhurst's Grebe, followed by another Colonel goal. The Bluejays would reclaim the lead with the help of Ames' goal, but the Colonels would tie it in the final minutes of the third quarter.
In the fourth, the Colonels would take a two goal lead in the first ten minutes, but Bluejays' Spence would add two goals in under 40 seconds to tie it once again. Centre would get a man-up in the final few minutes and capitalize on their advantage by scoring, they would go on to time waste the rest of the match.

The Bluejays will return to action for their first home contest of the season on February 16th as they will host Colorado College at 5:00 pm.
