KENOSHA, Wis. - The Elmhurst University women's volleyball team fell in four sets to Carthage College on Wednesday evening.
Elmhurst falls to 12-10 and 2-5 in the CCIW, while Carthage improves to 12-8 and 4-2 in conference play.
The Bluejays were unable to overcome their errors, along with a strong service night from the Firebirds, which combined to take down Elmhurst on the road. The Firebirds totaled 14 aces in the match, also tallying 10 blocks, to Elmhurst's six blocks and aces, respectively.
Elmhurst had a pair of players produce double-digit kills on the evening, each coming from the right side of the court, led by
Kali Phillips' 12 kills, while
Blair Johnson added 10 in the match. Outside of the pair's high hitting percentages, the Bluejays hit just .200 in the match.
Jada Wiley and
Alexa Bueser each provided a pair of aces on the night from the service line, while
Keely Larson led the defense with four blocks on the night.Â
Set one saw 64 combined points from each team, with the Bluejays unable to string together two consecutive points in the waning moments of the opener to fall, 33-31, in set one. Elmhurst bounced back with a strong set two, hitting .318 and evening the match at one set each with a 25-17 set two win. From there, the Firebirds strong defense and errors from Elmhurst allowed the hosts to take sets three and four by scores of 25-16, 25-13 to win the match, three sets to one.
