ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -Â The Elmhurst University football team fell to Augustana College, 35-21, Saturday afternoon at Austin E. Knowlton Complex.
Elmhurst (2-3, 3-2 CCIW) had their two-game win streak at the hands of the Vikings (3-2, 2-2 CCIW), who amassed 352 yards rushing and five touchdowns on the ground to pound their way to a win.
The Bluejays totaled a season-high 253 passing yards, with quarterback
John Odom completing 21-for-40 passes for a pair of touchdowns and one interception. The ball was spread around amongst eight different recievers, with
RJ Anderson leading with six receptions and 56 yards, while
Jacob Cockrell and
Keith Cohens caught both of the touchdown passes for Elmhurst.
On the defensive side of the ball, Cohens also led the Jays with nine total tackles and a sack, with
Justin Harris and
Malakai Correa also recording quarterback sacks in the contest.
Malik Flowers also intercepted an Augie pass in the game.
The Bluejays started strong, with Flowers intercepting a Viking pass to get Elmhurst the ball early. After back-to-back drives ending with punts from both teams, Elmhurst found the endzone first with a one-yard rushing touchdown from
Darius Lane, where the score would stand at 7-0 Elmhurst after one quarter.
The Vikings would capitalize on their first drive of the second quarter, finding the endzone to knot the game at seven. On their next drive, the Vikings would double their lead to make it 14-7 with 6:15 left. From there, the Bluejays would take a 15 play, 75-yard drive which ended with a one-yard touchdown pass from Odom to Cohens to tie the game at 14-all heading into the intermission.
The Bluejays would fail to continue their momentum in the second-half, with the Vikings scoring 14 more in the third to to take a 28-14 lead, and despite a late Cockrell touchdown, Elmhurst fell, 21-35, on the road.

Elmhurst returns to Langhorst Field next Saturday, October 19, hosting Washington University in St. Louis at 1:00 pm.
