Bluejays Complete Perfect Opening Weekend with Pair of Sweeps

RECAP

WINONA, Minn. - The Elmhurst University women's volleyball team completed a perfect opening weekend with a pair of sweeps over College of St. Scholastica and host Saint Mary's University (Minn.) Saturday afternoon.

Elmhurst (4-0) began the day with a convincing three-set victory over St. Scholastica (1-2), taking the match thanks to an efficient .307 hitting average from the team, recording 40 kills to 13 errors. Lacey Kaiser led the Bluejays with nine kills, while Katelyn Bower and Kali Phillips tallied five kills a piece with Bower adding four blocks in the match. Aly Reardon also continued her strong start to the season with five service aces.

The Bluejays opened the match with a 25-18 set one victory before crushing the Saints by a score of 25-6 in the second set. In the third set, the Saints jumped out to a 3-0 lead before a 7-2 Bluejay run allowed Elmhurst to grab a 7-6 lead. The two teams continued to trade the lead with conflicting runs, and Elmhurst reached match point thanks to a kill from Bower. Despite the Saints knotting the final set up at 24, Elmhurst used another kill from Bower and an attacking error from the Saints to seal the sweep in the first match of the day.

Elmhurst continued to roll in their second match of the day against tournament hosts Saint Mary's, with Elise Rossing and Lucy Anderson each tallying nine kills to lead the Bluejays. Payton Ceh tallied 13 digs in the match, while Anderson, Phillips, and Keely Larson each tallied three blocks.

The Bluejays took set one thanks to a late 5-0 run, and jumped out to an early lead and rode the advantage to a set two victory. Another 5-0 run late in the third set allowed Elmhurst to pull away from the Cardinals and secure their third sweep of the young season.
