ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -Â The Elmhurst University football team suffered their first loss of the season, a 6-74 defeat, to Augustana College (IL) in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin opener Saturday evening.
After a lengthy weather delay moved kickoff from the originally scheduled time of 6:00 p.m. to 9:23 p.m., Elmhurst (1-1, 0-1 CCIW) was unable to find any rhythm in any section of the game, while Augustana (2-0, 1-0 CCIW) used a 37-point first quarter to put the game away early.Â
The Bluejays lone touchdown came with :32 seconds left in the game, when quarterback
Andrey Acosta found
Jacob Cockrell for a six-yard touchdown reception, preventing the shutout.
Talyn West led the defense with seven tackles, while
Bryce Gable,
Jake Masco, Antonio Carrillo, and
Andre Hunt each tallied six tackles. Masco and
Jamon Gooden split 0.5 sacks for a loss of two yards in the contest, while Gable, West, Carrillo, and
Chris Reaves tallied pass break ups.

Elmhurst will return to Langhorst Field next Saturday, hosting the top-ranked North Central Cardinals at 2:00 p.m. CT on Sep. 23.
