ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst University football team fell, 6-59, to No. 1 North Central Saturday afternoon at Langhorst Field.

Elmhurst (1-2, 0-2 CCIW) went down in the matchup early, and was not able to break through a suffocating North Central (3-0, 2-0 CCIW) defense, who held the Bluejays to 148 total yards.

Quarterback Andrey Acosta totaled 131 passing yards, completing 11 of his 19 pass attempts with one touchdown pass to Seth Desmore, while also throwing one interception. Jacob Cockrell tallied four receptions for 33 yards, while Kristian Klingler caught two passes for 32 yards. On the defensive side, the Bluejays were led in tackles by Talyn West (seven solo, four assisted, 11 total) and Bryce Gable (eight), with Gable also tallying a sack and tackle for loss. Jake Masco also grabbed one tackle for loss, while Jamon Gooden was credited with 1.5 tackles for loss on the afternoon.

The Cardinals began the game scoring seven-straight touchdowns and forcing six-straight punts, taking a 49-0 lead into the half. The Bluejay defense settled in to begin the second half, forcing North Central to punt for the first time in the game. Acosta later led the Bluejays on an eight play, 51-yard touchdown drive to prevent the shutout, but the Bluejays were unable to muster up any more scores, leading to a 6-59 loss.

Elmhurst will head to Carthage College next Saturday, Sep. 30 for a 1:00 p.m. CT matchup with the Firebirds.
