DECATUR, Ill. - The Elmhurst University baseball team dropped a 2-7 decision to Millikin University Tuesday evening at Workman Field.
Elmhurst (8-11, 0-4 CCIW) kept it close with the Big Blue, fighting back from a two-run deficit to knot the game at two in the fourth, but three runs in the fifth and another pair in the sixth dug the Bluejays too large of a hole, falling to Millikin (17-7, 3-1 CCIW).
Drew Raspolich and
Jesse James provided the offense for the Bluejays, with each knocking in runs in a 1-for-4 and 2-for-4 effort at the plate, respectively.
Trey Romay was the other Bluejay to knocks multiple hits, going 2-for-4 on the day.
On the mound,
Eric Zbinden got the ball to start and pitched 4.2 innings, giving up four hits and five runs to drop to 1-1 on the season.
Zach Keplar and
Robert Brenneman enjoyed nice outings out of the bullpen, with Keplar giving up three hits and two runs across 1.2 innings of work and Brenneman working a clean outing with no hits or runs and adding a strikeout.
Millikin started the game fast, plating two runs in the bottom of the first to jump out to a 2-0 lead. The Bluejays got the offense going in the fourth, with Raspolich driving in a run with a double and James knocking a single into left field to tie the game at two through four innings. The tie would not stand long, however, as a pair of singles from the Big Blue knocked in three runs to extend the lead to 5-2 for the hosts, and a single and throwing error in the sixth allowed another pair to score to bring the game to a final score of 7-2 for Millikin.
