Bluejays Swept Away by Vikings

RECAP

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst University baseball team fell in a Saturday afternoon doubleheader to North Park University at Butterfield Park.

Elmhurst (14-19, 5-11 CCIW) dropped the opening contest by a score of 5-11 after leading 4-2 through six innings, giving up seven runs in the sixth and seventh innings to fall 11-5 in game one. In game two, the Bluejays maintained a 3-2 lead heading into the ninth inning, but four runs in the top of the inning from the Vikings (15-21, 9-6 CCIW) allowed the visitors to claim a 6-3 victory, sweeping the three-game set with the Bluejays.

In game one, Ryan Thrawl led the Bluejays with a pair of RBI in a 2-for-4 effort at the plate, while Freddie March and Drew Raspolich each tallied three hits. Cole Bozzi took the loss on the mound, giving up seven earned runs with three strikeouts, but a strong relief outing from Cody Baker highlighted the late innings, with the fifth-year senior tallying a pair of strikeouts and gave up just two hits across the final 1.2 innings of work.

In game two, starter Troy Taller had a strong outing starting on the mound, throwing 8.1 innings total, but gave up all six runs to fall to 3-2 on the season. Taller helped himself at the plate with a solo home run, while Trey Romay provided a two-run home run in the first inning to lead the Bluejay offense.
