ELMHURST, Ill. -Â The Elmhurst University baseball team dropped the opening game of a three-game set, 1-5, to North Park University Friday evening at Butterfield Park.
Elmhurst (14-17, 5-9 CCIW) struggled early, giving up three first inning runs, but settled in defensively in the contest. However, the bats could not garner any runs until the ninth inning, ultimately leading to North Park (13-21, 7-6 CCIW) taking the opening game of the series.Â
J.D. Knight provided eight innings starting for the Bluejays, giving up five runs (four earned) and striking out three baters. His pitching was not enough to lead the Bluejays to a victory however, as the right-hander dropped to 2-2 on the season.
The Bluejays knocked just four hits in the game, and scored their lone run in the ninth inning after
Freddie March tripled and was brought home by an RBI double from
Drew Raspolich, who went 2-for-3 on the evening.Â
