BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Elmhurst University women's lacrosse team fell, 4-22, to Illinois Wesleyan University at Tucci Stadium.
The Titans jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening quarter with goals from Maya Basan, Mallory Mills and Mia Fiandaca.
Elmhurst's
Andrea Murtland cut the Illinois Wesleyan lead to two with her first goal of the contest with 11:26 left to play in the quarter.
Britney Maldonado's goal extended the lead back to three for the Titans, but another Murtland goal with just 57 seconds left in the first period put the Bluejays behind 4-2 heading into the second quarter.
Illinois Wesleyan (7-9/3-2 CCIW) outscored the Bluejays 18-2 in the final three quarters of the contest in route to a conference victory.
Elmhurst (0-10/0-4 CCIW) was led by Murtland who scored three goals, caused two turnovers and won four draw controls.
Jacq Vanoni netted one goal and picked up four groundballs, while
Kendall Schieppe grabbed two groundballs and won four draw controls in the loss.
Maldonado led the way for the Titans with 11 points off of five goals and six assists. Fiandaca followed closely behind with six goals and seven won draw controls, while Sarah Gleason chipped in a hattrick of goals to go along with a pair of assists in the win. Jennie Hubbard caused a game-high five turnovers for Illinois Wesleyan as well.
Savannah Sannes collected 20 saves in goal for the Bluejays, while Lizzie and Rebecca Rymarcsuk earned the win in goal for the Titans with a combined two saves.
Elmhurst wraps up their 2023 campaign on Wednesday, April 26 at 6:00 p.m. against Augustana College at Langhorst Field.
