ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst University women's lacrosse team closed out its 2023 season with a 6-13 loss to Augustana College at Langhorst Field.
The Vikings (6-7/1-4 CCIW) netted five consecutive goals in the first quarter, but a
Kendall Schieppe goal put the Bluejays on the board with 1:51 left to play in the opening period.
A
Jacq Vanoni goal to start the second quarter cut the Augustana lead to three, but the Vikings responded quickly with four goals in a row to extend the lead back to 9-2.
Despite a goal from
Andrea Murtland with 3:52 remaining in the first half, the Bluejays trailed 11-3 at the midway point.
Elmhurst (0-11/0-5 CCIW) outscored the Vikings in the second half, 2-1, but it wasn't enough to earn their first victory of the season.
The Bluejays were led by Schieppe who scored three goals, picked up three groundballs and caused one turnover. Murtland chipped in a pair of goals and won a team-high six draw controls, while
Jacq Vanoni contributed one goal and won three draw controls in the loss.
MC Brown grabbed six groundballs and caused three turnovers as well for the Bluejays.
The Vikings were led by Cassidy Petrie who finished with four goals, while teammates Claire Kim and Madison Langewisch followed closely behind with a hattrick of goals apiece. Langewisch also won a game-high nine draw controls, while Kyla Painter added in a pair of goals in the win.
Rachel Forman earned the win in goal for Augustana with nine saves, while
Savannah Sannes collected eight saves for Elmhurst in the loss.
