Bluejays Edged by Franklin

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst University women's lacrosse team dropped its final non-conference game of the season to Franklin College, 20-11 at Langhorst Field.

Elmhurst's Gracie Eastman scored her first goal of the contest in the first 39 seconds of play, but the Grizzlies responded quickly with a goal from Jillian Schlieper at 13:04 to tie things up at one.

The Bluejays netted back-to-back goals to take a 3-1 lead with 10:40 remaining in the opening quarter. Franklin tied the score up at three apiece with goals from Victoria Simmons and Anya Glodowski.

Elmhurst (0-6) trailed 6-5 at the end of the first period.

The Bluejays outscored the Grizzlies in the second period, 4-2, to head into halftime with a 9-8 advantage.

Franklin (3-4) rattled off three goals to start the second half to take an 11-9 lead, but Kendall Schieppe and Eastman each found the back of the net to tie the score back up at 11-11.

The Grizzlies ended the contest with nine unanswered goals in route to their third victory of the season.

Elmhurst was led by Eastman who tied a career-high six goals in the lost. Andrea Murtland chipped in a pair of goals and won a team-high six draw controls. Corinna Salmon, Jacq Vanoni and Schieppe each contributed one goal for the Bluejays.

Glodowski led the way for the Grizzlies with two goals and six assists. Simmons followed closely behind with five goals, while Lora Adkins, Mia Turnbaugh and Baleigh Riddle each finished with a hattrick of goals in the win. Schlieper picked up a team-high three groundballs, while Adkins won six draw controls for Franklin.

Maddie Cary earned the win in goal for Franklin with four saves, while Savannah Sannes collected 12 saves for the Bluejays in the loss.

Elmhurst heads to Illinois Wesleyan to take on the Titans in its conference-opener on Wednesday, April 5 at 4:00 p.m.
