ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst University women's lacrosse team came up short against Bethel University, falling 20-5 at Langhorst Field.
The Pilots (2-2) jumped out to a 5-0 lead, before
Jacq Vanoni put the Bluejays on the board with her first goal of the season at the 8:06 mark in the opening quarter. Bethel led Elmhurst 9-2 at the end of the first period.
Bethel rattled off four unanswered goals in the second quarter to head into the break up 13-2.
Gracie Eastman got in on the scoring action with the first goal of the second half, but the Pilots responded quickly with back-to-back goals from Kaley Butler and Isabell Gerbrand.
Eastman netted two more goals throughout the rest of the second half, but the influx of Bethel's scoring was too much to overcome.
The Pilots were led by Butler with nine points off of five goals and four assists. Alyssa Lundy followed closely behind with eight points featuring four goals and four assists. Jenna Crockett added in four goals and two assists, while Kayla Tirado finished with four goals, one assist and picked up a game-high three groundballs.
The Bluejays were led by Eastman with three goals and two groundballs.
Kendall Schieppe chipped in one goal, while
Rosita Hepperle dished out one assist in the loss.
Samantha Swope and Maddie Reel earned the win in goal for Bethel with a combined eight saves, while
Savannah Sannes and
Jacq Vanoni collected 10 saves in the loss for Elmhurst.
The Bluejays hit the road for the first time this season to take on Marian University in Fond du Lac, Wis. on Friday, March 10 at 3:00 pm.
