AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Elmhurst University baseball team split their opening pair of games against Bard College on Sunday, March 19 on the opening day of the team's annual spring break trip.
The Bluejays (4-7, 0-0 CCIW) opened the day with a 4-0 victory, powered by a complete-game shutout junior left hander
Cole Bozzi. The southpaw pitched seven innings, giving up no runs and only two walks while striking out nine batters. The offense got working early with a pair of RBI from
Zach Kolb and
Troy Taller in the third inning, while
Michael Campanaro and
Davis Maifield added RBI in the fourth and sixth innings, respectively, to move Elmhurst past Bard in game one.
In game two, a high-scoring matchup went against the Bluejays as Elmhurst dropped an 8-10 decision after tough outings on the mound. Despite a pair of home runs from
Freddie March, his first of the year, and
Troy Taller, who each led the Bluejays with two and three RBI in the contest, starting pitcher
Joseph Kalish recorded just one out and let up four early runs to take the loss in the game.
On the day, Taller led the Bluejays at the plate with four total RBI in the doubleheader with a pair of hits.
