ELMHURST, Ill. – Keep up with all of the Elmhurst University athletic teams and take a look at the week ahead with the Bluejay Weekly.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

The Elmhurst University men's basketball team enters this week on a four-game winning streak, knocking off Illinois Wesleyan last Wednesday (74-64) and North Central last Saturday (72-61) on the road. The Bluejay men sit at 15-6 overall and a 7-5 mark in CCIW play, currently sitting in a tie for third place with Carthage and behind North Park in second place and Wheaton in first. The Bluejays will play the top two teams in conference in the final two weeks of the regular season, playing pivotal games to determine seeding in the CCIW Tournament.

Elmhurst will begin this week heading to Waukesha, Wis. to take on Carroll University at 7:00 p.m. CT on Wednesday, Feb. 8. Carroll enters the week 1-11 in conference play and 4-17 overall, riding an eight-game losing streak. Elmhurst and Carroll met earlier this season on Jan. 11 with the Bluejays pulling out an 89-69 victory.

The Bluejays will then host second-place North Park on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 4:15 p.m. CT inside R.A. Faganel Hall. North Park owns a 16-5 overall record and a 9-3 mark in CCIW play, already locking up a spot in the upcoming CCIW Tournament. The two teams met in Chicago on Jan. 7, with the Vikings taking a 79-75 victory over the Bluejays. North Park will head to Carthage on Wednesday before squaring off with the Bluejays on Saturday. 

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

The Bluejay women's basketball team is coming off their first conference victory of the season, defeating North Central 75-62 last Saturday in Naperville. Elmhurst now owns a 1-11 record in CCIW play and a 3-17 mark overall.

The women will look to build momentum this week with a pair of home contests, beginning on Wednesday evening when the Bluejays host Carroll at 7:00 p.m. CT inside R.A. Faganel Hall. Carroll heads into the midweek contest 9-3 in the CCIW and 14-7 overall, good for second place in the conference. Elmhurst and Carroll last met on Jan. 11 in Waukesha, with the Pioneers taking an 81-44 victory. 

Next, Elmhurst will kick off a doubleheader with the men's team on Saturday by hosting North Park for a 2:00 p.m. CT matchup. North Park enters Saturday's game with a 3-9 conference record and 7-14 overall mark. Last time the twi teams met in Chicago on Jan. 7, the Vikings pulled off a tight 53-41 victory over the Bluejays. North Park will host Wheaton College on Wednesday before matching up in R.A. Faganel Hall on Saturday. 

TRACK AND FIELD

The Elmhurst men's and women's track and field programs are coming off strong performances last Saturday at the Windy City Rumble, where the men placed third of eight teams and the women finished in a tie for second out of ten teams. The women currently sit at No. 22 in the country ahead of Tuesday's newest rankings, and currently sit at No. 6 in the Midwest region and No. 2 in the CCIW behind North Central. 

This week, the teams will head to Allendale, Mich. for the Grand Valley State University Big Meet on Friday and Saturday.

WRESTLING

After a week off, the Bluejay wrestling team will begin postseason play at the 2023 CCIW Championships hosted by North Central College in Naperville. This year, representing the Bluejays will be Dominic Iannantone at 125, Justin Hames at 133, Troy Mock at 141, Zachary Kolb at 149, Ronnie Massari at 157, Jeff Nugent at 165, Joe Caringella at 174, Norbert Crecan at 184, Colin O'Neill at 197, and Roberto Pena at heavyweight. 

Last season, the Bluejays placed in a tie for third as a team with Wheaton, with Millikin taking home the 2022 CCIW Wrestling team championship. Returners Hames (5th, 133), Massari (4th, 157), Nugent (3rd, 165), Caringella (3rd, 174), and Crecan (6th, 197) will look to build off their individual finishes from last seasons championship.

BOWLING

Elmhurst bowling competed last weekend at the CCIW Illinois Faceoff hosted by Illinois Wesleyan. Final results from the event are to be determined, but the women will continue their season this Friday-Sunday at the Storm Flyer Classic in Romeoville, Ill.
