ELMHURST, Ill. -Â The Elmhurst University men's basketball team secured a come-from-behind 77-72 victory over Concordia University Chicago Saturday evening inside R.A. Faganel Hall in their season opener.
Elmhurst (1-0, 0-0 CCIW) trailed for the majority of the game, and faced an 11-point deficit with 5:36 to go in the game. But, a pair of clutch treys from
John Ittounas and
Tagen Pearson cut the Bluejay deficit to one, and another three from Ittounas gave the Bluejays the lead for good, as the team finished off the five-point victory with strong defense and free throws in the final minute of the game.
Ittounas led the Bluejays in scoring with 26 points on 7-for-14 shooting from the field, including six three-pointers, while
Ocean Johnson tallied 14 points in the game.
Jonathan Zapinski also grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked three shots, contributing a team-high five assists.
Concordia (Chi.) had four different scorers in double-digits, with Jordan Matthews leading the Cougars with 17 points and three treys.

Elmhurst will hit the road next week, beginning a three-game road trip with a matchup at Transylania University on Thursday, Nov. 16 beginning at 6:30 p.m. CT.
