AURORA, Ill. -Â The Elmhurst University women's volleyball team fell, 1-3, to Aurora University Saturday evening.
Elmhurst (11-5, 1-2 CCIW) started strong, falling in the first set but managing to knot the match at one set a piece, but two-straight set wins from Aurora (13-8, 6-0 NACC) allowed the hosts to take the match.
Lucy Anderson led the Bluejays with 12 kills and a trio of blocks, while
Jada Wiley earned a double-double with ten kills and ten digs in the match, also adding three blocks.Â
Aurora won set one, 25-19 but Elmhurst responded in the second set, trailing most of the set before a 6-0 run opened a five-point lead. Another four-point burst late in the second allowed Elmhurst to take the set, 25-19, and even the match at one set each.
Both teams were evenly matched throughout the third, with the lead for either team not going past four, but a late run from the Spartans thanks to a few Bluejay errors allowed the hosts to take set three, 25-20, and lead the match two sets to one. In the fourth, both sides again went back-and-forth throughout the set, needing extra points to decide, but the Spartans pulled away late for a 29-27 set four victory, taking the match 3-1.
