ELMHURST, Ill. -Â The Elmhurst University men's soccer team fell, 2-3, in a tightly contested match to Wheaton College (IL) Saturday morning at Langhorst Field.
Elmhurst (2-8-2, 1-3 CCIW) traded goals with the Thunder (7-4-1, 2-0-1 CCIW) early, and equalized the game late in the second half, but Wheaton was able to muster up a goal in the 80th minute and held on for the conference victory.
The Bluejays were led by
Jonathan Mueller and
Luis Aviles, who both tallied a goal in the contest, while Illia Jerenic and
Roland Dearborn grabbing assists. Mueller led the Bluejays with seven shots, three on goal, while
Brady Lucas, Aviles, and Jerenic tallied three shots each. The Bluejays also tallied 12 corner kicks in the match.
Wheaton found scores from Pryse Anderson and Kyle Johnson, with the latter tallying a brace in the contest.Â
Elmhurst went up early after Jerenic found an open Aviles, who bounded and knocked in the first score of the game at the 11:15 mark, putting the Bluejays into the lead. Wheaton responded just seven minutes later with an equalizer of their own, and eight minutes later found another goal to take a 2-1 lead, which held until the half.
In the second half, Mueller recieved a great pass from Dearborn on the left side of the box which Mueller deposited into the back of the net, knotting the match at two a piece with 30 minutes to go. Elmhurst was able to limit the Thunder's chances, but the visitors found the back of the net in the 80th minute to take a 3-2 lead. The Bluejays were unable to find an equalizer in the final ten minutes, eventually falling, 2-3.

The Bluejays will hit the road next Wednesday, Oct. 11, for a 7:00 p.m. CT kickoff at Augustana College (IL). Â
