ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst University women's volleyball team downed Carroll University, 3-0, for their first College Conference of Illinois Wisconsin win of the season.
Elmhurst (11-4, 1-2 CCIW) used strong performances from middles
Lucy Anderson (eight kills, six blocks) and
Keely Larson (eight kills, four blocks) to down the Pioneers (8-11, 0-4 CCIW) inside R.A. Faganel Hall.
Jada Wiley notched 12 digs and four service aces in the match, while Ali Schwartz added 11 assists and three aces.
Elmhurst held the Pioneers to a -.124 attack percentage, with Rebekah Andreae leading the way for the visitors with four kills.
The Bluejays jumped out to a 6-1 advantage early in set one, and later extended the lead to 14-5 after a long service run from Schwartz. The Pios managed to trim their deficit to five, but a quarter of errors from Carroll allowed Elmhurst to keep the momentum and take the opening set, 25-15.
In the second set, both teams were evenly matched early, but a pair of kills from Anderson and a Wiley ace extended the Bluejay lead to 15-11. After regaining the serve from a kill by Larson, Schwartz again went on a long service run of 8-0 to set up set point, and the set was later won, 25-16, after a kill from
Elise Rossing.
In the third, Carroll began to gain momentum from a pair of Bluejay errors, taking a 6-5 lead and later taking an 11-10 advantage. Another long service run, this time with Wiley behind the service line, propelled the Bluejays to a 6-0 run, and an error from the Pios later won the Bluejays the set, 25-15, giving Elmhurst the match via a sweep.

The Bluejays are back in action tomorrow evening, Oct. 7, traveling to Aurora University for a 7:00 p.m. CT first serve.
